Independent concept study / Editorial website

Northline Press

An editorial website concept for an imagined nature-writing publisher, with the rhythm of a quarterly rather than a catalogue.

Concept study

An independent exploration of design and direction.

01 / The starting point

A story worth
giving form.

The imagined brief: a home for essays, issues, and a short list of titles — without looking like a shop that happens to publish. This concept treats the homepage as a table of contents: one essay brought forward, the current issue, and the backlist kept quiet.

02 / The design language

The details
make the
difference.

  1. 01

The type is the brand. A large serif carries titles; captions stay in a calm sans so the writing remains the point.

  2. 02

Photography is full-bleed and scarce. Most pages are paper-coloured and spacious, so when a dark image appears it feels like a chapter break.

  3. 03

Navigation is a short contents line, not a menu of everything the press has ever made.

03 / The finished form

An idea,
made tangible.

The study is a responsive editorial site: an issue index, essay pages with a careful measure, and a restrained shelf for the backlist. It is a concept project, not a live client engagement.
